Should you share your location?

I am working on a few new features for this site, one involves showing my ‘last known location’ on a map. Since starting to develop this I have been thinking long and hard about whether you should really share your location on the web.

Sharing your location is becoming increasingly easier as the weeks roll by, with new methods such as Gowalla, foursquare and geotagged tweets popping up. Are we all becoming a bit to open with our location? Do you have an opinion on whether you should share this information with the world wide web? Do you avoid doing so or do you openly share this information? Whatever your answer what are your reasons for this opinion?

I’m genuinly interested to see the response and how it varies between different people from different backgrounds. Please comment with your take on the subject.

  1. Personally, I’ve no problem with geotagging stuff when you’re out and about, but I, like I assume most people do, turn it off when I’m at home.

At the end of the day you have to consider how many people are likely to want to track you down and beat you to death! For me, I’d say it’s in the low teens 😀
